Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Education, Hon. Zakari Mohammed has reassured that the country’s 2018 budget will ready at the end of April.
He spoke to newsmen in Ogbomoso while attending an empowerment programme organized by his All Progressives Congress (APC) colleague, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, who represents Ogbomoso North/South/Oriire Federal Constituency.
Zakari Mohammed, who represented the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said the federal lawmakers had a duty to ask for detailed information from the Executives, as the legislators could not manufacture figures. He insisted that, contrary to the impression being created by several vested interests desperate to malign the National Assembly, the delay in passing the budget was owing to lack of co-operation from some ministers. He is, however, optimistic that by the end of April, Nigeria will have a budget.
The lawmaker called on the executive arm of government to improve means of generating revenue so that the budget can be implemented, as the rate of budget performance has been on the decline.
He also urged the people of Ogbomoso North/South/Oriire Federal constituency to ensure Ogunwuyi’s re-election to the National Assembly in 2019. He explained that a first timer to the National Assembly will need more than three years to learn the process of lawmaking and that the lawmaking template they operated was in consonance with longevity.
