There was disagreement at the House of Representatives on Wednesday over a motion calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse his executive order banning the possession of licensed firearms and issuance of new licences.

This came as the leader of the House, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, noted that such motion should not be an issue of debate going by the mood of the nation.

The comment by the leader of the House prompted the sponsor of the motion, Uzoma Nkem Abota to request that he should be allowed to take the motion next week Tuesday.

This request by Abonta generated controversy as some lawmakers argued that the motion must be taken today or be withdrawn completely.

A few weeks ago, the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, said that Fulani herdsmen have the right to bear arms for protection going against the presidential order banning the possession of licensed firearms and issuance of new licences.

The motion was stepped down for any other legislative day.

Outside the plenary, House of Representative member from Abia State has expressed disappointment over comments by Senator Smart Adeyemi describing the Governor of Abia State as a “drunkard”

He requested that Adeyemi render an apology to Okezie Ikpeazu or face the Joint Committee on Ethics and Privileges of both Chambers of the National Assembly.
